The Compass Mindset: Begin with the End in Mind
The Personal Compass is not a tool—it's a philosophical system. It starts by defining your legacy to guide your daily choices.
1. Define Your Mission: The Memorial Statement
Imagine your own funeral. What is the single, defining characteristic of your life that everyone—friends, family, colleagues—would unanimously agree on?
-
The Exercise: Write the Memorial Statement you wish to be read, knowing it must be accurate to the life you lived.
-
Example: "He always looked for ways to improve his life and positively affect the life of those around him."
-
The Result: This statement becomes your Life Mission—your unchanging True North.
2. Establish Roles & Expectations: The Speakers
Who is attending your funeral? The people you want there determine the Roles critical to your fulfillment.
-
Define Roles: If your spouse is there, Husband/Wife is a role. If your children are there, Parent is a role. Every important person defines a corresponding role.
-
Set Expectations: Imagine one of these key people comes forward to speak about you. What would you want them to say about how you lived that specific role
-
The Result: The content of their ideal speech becomes the Expectations and definition of success for that role.
** Essential: The Role of Yourself **
Before any other role can be fulfilled, there is one that makes all others possible: Yourself.
-
Yourself: If you neglect your physical health, mental clarity, character, or inner life, every other role eventually suffers. You cannot consistently care for others without first taking responsibility for your own well-being.
-
This role is non-negotiable: It is the foundation upon which all other roles stand.
3. Convert Vision to Action: Commitments & Goals
Once you know *who* you want to be (your Expectations), you determine *what* you need to do (your Commitments).
-
Daily To-Dos: These are the actions you must start doing or stop doing today to fulfill those Expectations (e.g., stopping work at 5 PM to fulfill the Parent role).
-
Goal Tracking: Set 1–5 high-impact goals per role that, when achieved, make a noticeable difference in fulfilling the role's Expectations.
4. Self-Inspection: The Journal
Goals track what you accomplish; journaling tracks *how* you feel about it.
-
The Purpose: The journal is a way to self-inspect, understand what is truly happening inside you, and analyze the friction between your intended actions and your reality.
-
The Insight: Use reflections to refine your Expectations and ensure your daily actions truly serve your Mission.
5. AI Mentor/Coach: Your Personal Guide
Sometimes we need an outside perspective to see what we cannot see ourselves.
-
Personalized Feedback: Receive insights and suggestions based on your plan, reflections, and goal progress to maintain momentum and stay aligned with your mission.
-
Identify Blind Spots: The AI Mentor helps you discover patterns and obstacles you might not notice on your own, guiding you toward more effective strategies for living your legacy.
-
Optional: The AI Mentor is an optional feature, only if you decide to use it.
